Abstract

In car, the over drive unit consist of Epicyclic gears but in this research work over drive unit consist of sprockets. In this unit, we have four additional chain sprockets compare with normal transmission system in two wheelers. In normal transmission, have driving sprocket consists of 13 teeth and driven sprocket consists of 41 teeth’s. It consists of three chain sprockets mounted on a shaft. Another one is attached to the wheel. The engine sprocket is connected with the chain to the centre sprocket at the shaft. The engine sprockets has 13T and driven sprocket has 18T.The over drive system has 20T and driven is 41T.The normal drive has 16T and driven is 41T.Reduction in those two is 2.05:1 and 2.56:1respectively.Vehicles needs more fuel to speed up. On fixing an overdrive unit, the vehicle moves faster at the mean time specific fuel consumption will be comparatively low when compared to other vehicles. Overdrive increases the wheel RPM (speed) than the engine RPM (speed). The other advantage of this mechanism is that the vehicle can be moved with less effort during rest position or when it gets puncher.
