Abstract
Communicable diseases pose a significant health threat in India, contributing to high rates of death and disability among children under the age of five. Six of these diseases, often referred to as the "killer diseases," can be prevented through timely vaccinations starting from birth. In Indian households, mothers play a central role in managing health-related matters, and their awareness of these diseases and the importance of vaccination can be key in reducing their prevalence. The current study employed a quasi-experimental design to investigate this issue. Through purposive sampling technique 80 Primi-Postnatal mothers from postnatal ward were selected at Gosha hospital, Shivaji Nagar, Bangalore. A structured interview schedule was employed to gather data from the study participants. The collected data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics, with a significance level set at 0.05. The overall comparison of pre-test and post-test mean knowledge scores on immunization showed a notable increase in knowledge, with the post-test mean score rising to 77.1%, compared to 48% in the pre-test. The findings indicate a significant association between knowledge levels and various demographic factors, including age, education, occupation, residential status, and sources of information. The findings of the study did not make any significant association between knowledge found in marital status and type of family.
