Open Access Policy

What is open access?

Open access refers to the practice of making research articles and other scholarly materials freely available online, without cost or access barriers. Open access is based on the principle that scientific research should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay for access.

Open Access Models

  • Numerous models of open access have been developed, with unique approaches to enabling unrestricted access to research publications. Among the most commonly employed open access models are:

Green Open Access

  • Green Open Access, also known as self-archiving, is a model of open access publishing in which authors deposit a version of their manuscript in an online repository or website after it has been accepted for publication by a traditional subscription-based journal. This version of the manuscript is typically the author's final draft, but not the published version, which remains behind a paywall.

Self-archiving policies vary among publishers and journals, with some allowing authors to self-archive their manuscript immediately upon acceptance, while others impose an embargo period before the manuscript can be made publicly available. The embargo period typically ranges from 6 to 24 months, but can be longer in some cases.

One of the main benefits of Green Open Access is that it enables authors to share their research with a wider audience, regardless of their institutional or financial resources. It also provides an alternative to traditional subscription-based publishing, which can be prohibitively expensive for individuals and institutions.

Gold Open Access
  • Gold Open Access is a model of open access publishing in which authors pay a fee to make their articles freely available to readers upon publication. The article is published in an open access journal, with no paywall or access restrictions. The fee is typically paid by the author's institution or research funder, and covers the cost of publication, peer review, and other editorial services.

One of the main advantages of Gold Open Access is that it makes research freely available to anyone with an internet connection, increasing the visibility and impact of the research. This can lead to increased citation rates and broader dissemination of research findings. Gold Open Access can also promote collaboration and knowledge sharing, as researchers from different institutions and disciplines can access and build upon each other's work.

Citation

Articles tend to have a much bigger impact in the short term compared to “subscription-only” work. The long-term impact is similar, with some studies showing a slightly larger impact for open-access articles.

Widest Introduction to Global Community

Strive to promote your research to a wide audience. The scientific community and the common people can have unlimited access to all published contents in journals, which are fully free as soon as it is published on the webpage. These journals' broad readership allows authors to convey the importance of their work to the wider science community in addition to specialists in their field.

Share your research with the world

Under an Open Access, CC-BY license, you own the copyright to your work. So you’re free to share it anywhere, anytime, with anyone. There is never a fee for readers to access, download, or share your article more widely.

Faster dissemination

You get faster dissemination of your research results. You fulfill eventual open access mandates from research funders. Publishing fees/APCs are in many cases prepaid.

Unlimited Access

Most journals and repositories do not impose access costs on the reader. Thus price barriers are substantially lowered or removed entirely. Authors are thus granted the ability to address a wider audience without the corresponding expenditure. The reach of the articles or materials increases tremendously since readers can retrieve them regardless of their economic status or geographical location.

High Standard Review Process

All Open Access journals provide a high standard of peer review, selecting original research which is high quality and relevant for its discipline. Each journal is editorially independent with its Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board who lead journal strategy and take publication decisions on all submissions.

Faster Processing Time

Modern times demand that processing times are minimized so that authors can publish their work quickly. JournalsPub introduced an open access system enabling authors to get their work published rapidly as per their desire. For journals with paid access, the processing times will match international standards ensuring the timely publication of quality manuscripts.

Open Search Options

An article can typically be more easily located if it is in the open-access domain. In particular, searching within the article or recommending and sharing it with others, is facilitated to a great extent.

Inform the future

Open Access allows everyone to benefit from your advancements, not just a select group of other researchers. Students, funders, policymakers, and readers from around the world all have a stake in science. By increasing visibility and access to research, we can amplify its power to inform, educate, and enlighten.

Publishing Costs

Since open-access publications are usually less expensive to produce and disseminate, both journals and publishers can benefit. In some cases, authors may be required to pay enhanced publication charges. Many traditional publishers have made part of their material open access which has enhanced their visibility and attracted subscriptions.

Authors are asked to pay an article processing charge (APC) for their article to be published in open access under a Creative Commons license because costs are involved at every stage of the publication process, from administering peer review to copy-editing and hosting the final article on dedicated servers.

Open Access Policy and Information

All research articles published in JournalsPub are fully open access: immediately freely available to read, download and share. Articles are published under the terms of a Creative Commons license which permits use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium provided the original work is properly cited.

An Open Access Publication meets the following two conditions:

  • The author(s) and copyright holder(s) grant(s) to all users a free, irrevocable, worldwide, perpetual right of access to, and a license to copy, use, distribute, transmit and display the work publicly and to make and distribute derivative works, in any digital medium for any responsible purpose, subject to proper attribution of authorship, as well as the right to make small numbers of printed copies for their personal use.
  • A complete version of the work and all supplemental materials, including a copy of the permission as stated above, in a suitable standard electronic format is deposited immediately upon initial publication in at least one online repository that is supported by an academic institution, scholarly society, government agency, or other well-established organization that seeks to enable open access, unrestricted distribution, interoperability, and long-term archiving (for the biomedical sciences, PubMed Central is such a repository).

Open Access Licensing

Articles accepted in Open Access of JournalsPub are published under Creative Commons licenses. This gives the provision to re-use the published materials.

Our preferred license is the Creative Commons Attribution v4.0 International license (CC BY), and JournalsPub with open access options offers the CC BY license. The CC BY license serves as the most open license available and is considered the industry's "default standard" for open access; many funders prefer it too. This license helps audiences to replicate and allocate the content in any medium or format, in addition, to modifying, transforming, or building around it for commercial purposes, required, credit should be given to the original author.
