INTRODUCTION: Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental disorder that profoundly impacts not only those diagnosed but also their families. The burden placed on family members of individuals with schizophrenia is substantial, encompassing emotional, psychological, and financial dimensions. As primary caregivers, family members often navigate complex challenges, including managing symptoms, coordinating treatment, and coping with the social stigma associated with the disorder. Despite the critical role families play in the care and support of individuals with schizophrenia, the OBJECTIVES of the study were a) To evaluate the burden experienced by caregivers of patients with schizophrenia, develop a structured teaching program aimed at alleviating this burden, and assess the effectiveness of the program in reducing caregiver stress. METHOD: A quantitative research approach was employed for this study. The sample of 30 caregivers in VIMHANS Hospital, New Delhi, was selected using the purposive Sampling technique. The instruments used for this study were a standardized questionnaire (ZARIT BURDEN Assessment scale) RESULT AND CONCLUSION: The result of the study revealed that the mean post-test score (61.77) is less than the mean pre-test score (56.07). The mean difference between the pre-test and post-test scores is 5.7, indicating that the teaching program was effective in reducing the family burden experienced by caregivers of patients with schizophrenia.
