Abstract
Delta modulation is an important signal processing technique widely used in digital communication systems for efficient analog-to-digital signal conversion and bandwidth reduction. With the increasing demand for high-speed and low-complexity communication systems, bandwidth-efficient transmission methods have become essential in modern telecommunication networks. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of delta modulation techniques and their role in improving signal transmission efficiency in digital communication environments. The paper examines the operating principles of delta modulation, adaptive delta modulation, and delta-sigma modulation while evaluating their performance in terms of bandwidth utilization, signal quality, noise reduction, and transmission accuracy. The study highlights how delta modulation simplifies system design by using single-bit quantization and reduced computational complexity compared with conventional pulse code modulation techniques. Various performance factors including slope overload distortion, granular noise, sampling rate, and step-size adaptation are critically discussed. The analysis further explores the application of delta modulation in wireless communication systems, audio transmission, speech processing, telemetry, and low-power embedded communication devices. Recent advancements involving adaptive algorithms, digital signal processing methods, and intelligent modulation control techniques are also reviewed to demonstrate improvements in transmission reliability and spectral efficiency. The study concludes that delta modulation remains a practical and cost- effective solution for bandwidth-efficient signal transmission, particularly in systems requiring low hardware complexity, reduced power consumption, and reliable real-time communication performance in modern digital communication networks.
