Abstract

Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is a structured and systematic assessment method widely used to evaluate clinical skills, knowledge, communication, decision-making, and professional competencies among nursing students. Effective implementation of OSCEs requires nursing faculty to possess adequate knowledge, confidence, and practical skills related to examination planning, station development, administration, and evaluation. This study aimed to develop a comprehensive handbook on OSCEs and assess its impact on the knowledge, attitude, and clinical competence of nursing faculty in conducting OSCEs. A mixed-methods approach was adopted to explore changes in faculty members’ understanding, confidence, attitudes, and proficiency following the use of the handbook. A narrative review of relevant literature was undertaken to identify essential components, principles, and best practices associated with OSCE implementation in nursing education. The findings indicate that a structured and user-friendly handbook can serve as an effective resource for strengthening faculty knowledge and promoting confidence in conducting OSCEs. It can also support greater consistency in station preparation, examination procedures, assessment criteria, and evaluation practices. The study highlights the potential value of standardized guidance in improving the quality and reliability of clinical skills assessment. The findings have important implications for nursing education, faculty development initiatives, and institutional assessment practices. Incorporating comprehensive OSCE guidelines into faculty training may contribute to more effective, standardized, and competency-based clinical assessment in nursing education.
