Abstract

In accordance with Indian traditions, families have traditionally been the cornerstone of support for the elderly, ensuring their social and emotional security. However, the shift towards nuclear family models has heightened the challenges faced by the elderly, including psychological distress such as anxiety, depression, and loneliness, as well as financial and physical vulnerabilities. The primary objective of this research is to evaluate the awareness regarding emotional difficulties and the coping mechanisms among individuals aged 60 and above. This investigation involved 60 elderly participants residing in a retirement home within a specific locality in Punjab. The selection of participants was executed through purposive sampling, and information was gathered using a custom-developed questionnaire.
