  Abstract: An ordinary distillation column separates a binary feed into two products, but multi-component mixtures need more complex separation sequences. For a ternary mixture of component ABC, the separation can follow a direct sequence (A/BC, B/C) or an indirect sequence (AB/C, A/B), in which the direct sequence is preferred due to the lower operating cost.
