Drilling of Fibre Reinforced Plastics (FRPs) Materials: A Literature Survey

  1. Sandeep Kumar

Abstract

The use of polymer composite materials has increased rapidly over the last decade and the numbers of papers for the machining of these materials has also increased. The aim of this paper is to present a literature survey on the resins, properties, the superiority of the hole produced in drilling of the fibre reinforced plastics (FRPs), different techniques used to detect the defects in composite structures that may be caused during manufacturing and services, benefits and applications of the FRPs. Today FRPs have an important place not only in the field of engineering materials but also in many industries such as aircraft, aerospace, automotive, marine, sporting goods, chemicals, constructions, and electrical due to their high strength to weight ratio, high damping, high fracture toughness, excellent corrosion and thermal resistances.
