Serendipitous Medicines-Discoveries by Chance
Abstract
Discovery is nothing but the art of finding something. In the medical history, number of discoveries happened by chance. These happy accidental discoveries are well known as serendipity, a word coined by Horace Walpore. Serendipity is a pleasant surprise of finding a particularly useful information while not looking for it. There is interesting well known serendipitous drug discoveries in medical science such as penicillin, cephalosporin, aspirin, nitrous oxide, and sildenafil etc. Zenblanity is the term just apposite to serendipity and stand for unpleasant surprise. Serendipitous drugs discoveries have been an important tool of clinical trials which makes overall trials economical as well as time saving. Approximately 5-6% drugs used in clinical practice in serendipitous in origin.Keywords
