Abstract

Research design: A quantitative research approach with pre-experimental one group pre-test, post-test design was adopted in this study.Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programme on knowledge regarding multi drug resistance tuberculosis among staff nurses at tertiary level teaching hospital, Dharwad. Sample and sampling technique: A total of 30 staff nurses were selected by non – probability purposive sampling technique.Data Collection: The tool used for data collection was structured knowledge questionnaires, deals with knowledge on multi drug resistant tuberculosis.Data analysis: Collected data was analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics in terms of frequencies, percentage, mean, standard deviation and “t test”Results: The study finding on pre- test knowledge score was 86.66% (26) of the staff nurses had average knowledge, 10% (03) had good knowledge, and 3.33% (1) had poor knowledge. In post-test knowledge score 100% (30) of staff nurses had good knowledge and none of them had poor and average knowledge. Comparison of pre and post-test results revealed that the mean pre-test score was 15.56 and SD was 3.89 whereas the mean post test score was 26.6 and SD 1.64. The calculated t value (5.09) was higher than the table value (2.05) which was highly significant at the 0.05 level of significance. Hence the null hypothesis was rejected, and research hypothesis was accepted.Conclusion: This result clearly indicated that Instructional teaching program was effective in enhancing the knowledge of staff nurses regarding Multi drug resistant tuberculosis.
