Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during the Rabi season of 2015-16 and 2017-18 at Junagadh (Gujarat) to evaluate the efficacy of some post-emergence herbicides and their mixtures against complex weed flora in wheat. The major weed flora noticed in the experimental field were Echinochloa colona, Cynodon dactylon, Brachiaria spp. and Dactyloctenium aegyptium among the monocots; Amaranthus viridis, Chenopodium album, Digera arvensis, Melilotus indica, Portulaca oleracea, Convolvulus arvensis, Euphorbia hirta and Phyllanthus niruri among the dicot weeds and Cyperus rotundus as sedge weed. The pooled results over three years revealed that next to weed free treatment, hand weeding, significantly improved growth and yield attributes such as plant height , number of effective tillers per meter row length , number of spikelets per spike , number of grains per spike, 100-seed weight , and ultimately increased grain and straw yields over the other treatments. These treatments were also found to be effective in reducing dry weight of weeds with lower weed index and higher weed control efficiency.
