Monitoring the Operation of Mobile Air Compressor Component of Filters Using Reliability Analysis Concepts

  1. Ukpaka C. P

Abstract

The performance of filter component was monitored in a mobile air compressor operating in a gas plant facility located in Rivers State. The investigation covers the monitoring of the numbers of failure, downtime, and computation failure rate, mean time between failure, reliability, unreliability, availability and unavailability. In this study, it was experienced that the failures occur due to over usage as well as presence of particles in the cooling fluid and inadequate maintenance. In ability of the filter to allow free flow of the fluid within the system may cause shutdown of the mobile air compressor. The operational phenomena of filter component in a mobile air compressor were monitored and data obtained was related to mathematical language and the following parameters were evaluated as demonstrated in this research as shown in downtime of 76 hrs, 78 hrs, 82 hrs and 102 hrs, mean time between failure (MTBF) of 372 hrs, 309.3 hrs, 199.3 hrs and 156,8 hrs, failure rate of 0.000913, 0.00102, 0.00148 and 0.00171, reliability of 0.066(6.6%), 0.058(5.8%), 0.021(2.1%) and 0,017(1.7%), unreliability of 0.934, 0.942, 0.979 and 0.983, and availability of 0.9750, 0.9727, 0.9689 and 0.9584 as well as unavailability of 0.025, 0.027, 0.030 and 0.041 for first, second, third and fourth year of investigation. The problem associated to the failure of the filters can be controlled if adequate measures and good policy are put in place in terms of maintenance culture.
