Effect of Coupling Agent on Organoclay Dispersion in Polyethylene/Organoclay Nanocomposites for Packaging Industry
Abstract: Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is one of the most widely used polymers in various fields, but due to the hydrophobic nature of LDPE, it is hard to prepare an LDPE/clay nanocomposite. In this article, an LDPE/organoclay nanocomposite, which can be used in the packaging industry, was prepared by melt-blending organoclay with a polymer matrix (LDPE) and compatibilizer, low molecular weight oxidized polyethylene. The influences of organoclay, and compatibilizer during melt mixing …

Flexural Properties of Vetiver Fiber Reinforced Polyethylene Composite are Affected by Processing Parameters
Abstract: Fiber reinforced polymer composites have long been influential in a variety of applications due to their great particular strength and modulus. Vetiver fiber (VF)/thermoplastic composites are an alternative material for solving the environmental pollution problem related to synthetic polymers. The benefits of natural fibers (such as coir, jute, vetiver, calotropis gigantea, flax, hemp, kenaf, etc.) over traditional reinforcing fibers (glass and carbon fiber) are their easy obtainability, renewability, non-corrosive nature, …

Combine Effect of Dry and Decomposed Raffia Palm in the Bioremediation of Oil-based Drill Cutting
Abstract: This study determines the effect of dry substrate and decomposed raffia palm for degradation of oil- based drill cuttings bioremediation. The remediation process was effectuated using dry and decomposed raffia palm. The experiment was carried out at the research Centre located at Agricultural and Environmental Engineering departmental workshop in Rivers State University, Port Harcourt. Samples of oil-based drill cuttings were bulked in eleven reactors with four replications (T1, T2, T3-T11). …

Synthesis of Bromobutyl Rubber: Effect of Reaction Temperature and Time on Bromobutyl Rubber Microstructure
Abstract: Butyl rubber is prepared by cationic polymerization process either by solution or slurry phase by randomly copolymerizing isobutylene with small amount of isoprene (1-3 mol %). It has good air impermeability and oxidative stability and thus finds extensive use in inner tube applications. The presence of unsaturation in the form of isoprene units in butyl rubber provides a means of enhancing useful properties of this important commodity elastomer by incorporation …

Elasticity's Double-Edged Sword: Navigating Instability in Materials
Abstract: The phenomena of elastic instability, which is frequently seen as a restriction, presents both difficulties and unrealized possibilities for materials research and engineering. This explores the complex interactions between elasticity and instability in different materials, exposing the dual nature of this phenomena as both a constraint and an opportunity. This article illustrates the delicate balancebetween upholding structural integrity and utilizing instability for cutting-edge applications by addressing the fundamental ideas underpinning …
