E-STATCOM for Improving Power System Damping Profile
Abstract: This work shows the performance improvement of a power system using STATCOM interfaced with an energy storage device (E-STATCOM). The storage device considered in this article is a supercapacitor. The STATCOM draws or supplies reactive power to the system while the supercapacitor caters for real power need. A multimachine power system model has been developed incorporating the STATCOM and supercapacitor dynamics. E-STATCOM has been considered to have been installed in …

Problems of Power Quality and their Improvement Techniques
Abstract: Power Quality Issues Have Become a Critical Challenge in the field of electric power utilities and power system engineers today’s Environment. The apparatus utilised in power distribution are much sensitive to perturbation in the supply lines. Two-wire (single phase), three-wire (three phase without neutral), and four-wire (three phase with neutral) are utilised in ac power networks with nonlinear loads. Electric power filtration has grown more active in recent years an …

Wind Power: Voltage and Power Quality Control System
Abstract: Power quality is a critical issue in a power system. The nonlinear nature of loads causes the majority of the pollution problems in the power system. Wind power, in general, does not contribute to voltage regulation in grids due to the large amount of non-linear equipment, impact, and fluctuating loads. Wind power is also frequently a source of voltage sag or swell. Power systems are frequently regarded as insufficient because …
