Among the Indian women, cervical cancer is still the second most prevalent cancer and one of the leading causes of cancer death especially in the rural areas where screening and diagnostic facilities are not developed. This study assesses the feasibility, awareness, and acceptability on the use of biofunctionalized nanoparticles for early detection of cervical cancer in women from rural North India. Using a pre-tested structured questionnaire, a community-based cross-sectional survey was conducted among 770 women aged 18-60 years from four rural districts in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The findings showed that 67.3% of the respondents had never undergone any form of cervical screening, however, a considerable 79.2% showed propensity towards undertaking a test that utilized nanotechnology if it was characterized as safe, accurate and non-invasive. Remarkably, the greater acceptance was noted among those with higher educational levels (p < 0.001). The findings highlight the necessity of developing appropriate targeted awareness programs but also suggest the possibilities of utilizing economic point-of-need nanodiagnostic devices in public health systems to increase cervical cancer detection and reduce mortality in such populations.
