This study aims to investigate the possible applications of 5G technology for smart city development and operation. 5G is the fifth-generation technology standard for cellular networks and as you already know, it features a super-fast downloading speed, response time (also known as latency), and massive connectivity. In this paper, a concise perspective is presented for 5G technology with its main attributes and functionalities including enhanced data rates (about ten times than previous mobile technologies), reduced latency (<1ms in some scenarios) along with massive IoT support where a huge number of devices can be connected simultaneously. These features mean 5G is a fundamental enabler of smart city applications like autonomous transportation, integrated energy management, and an intelligent grid system as well improved public safety. It also looks at how 5G can enable the Internet of Things (IoT) for smart cities — used to bolster urban infrastructure, optimize resource allocation, and offer real-time data insights into city planning. Overall, it is anticipated that this study will present a thorough insight into how 5G can influence smart cities in the future — what specific uptake challenges are with its deployment -and potential benefits to urban environments more broadly, and withinthe government’s perspective and public citizenry.
