Abstract

The utilization of metallic swarf in concrete manufacturing is increasing in importance due to its environmental and economic benefits. However, the mechanical qualities of such concrete frequently appear inferior to regular concrete. To improve the mechanical characteristics of standard concrete, numerous additives have been researched, but the utilization of metallic swarf remains a mystery. This research investigates the recycling of waste metallic swarf produced in the automobile industry and partially replacing it with sand. The study’s goal is to investigate how strength changes affect the mechanical performance of concretes containing such additives. The research involved preparing six different mixtures, including a control mix without additives and mixtures with different amounts of metallic swarf. The results indicated that adding metallic swarf greatly enhanced the mechanical qualities of traditional concrete. Concrete with MS had a better compressive strength than the control mixture, even when up to 20% of the metallic swarf was replaced with sand. The split tensile and flexural strength were likewise raised until 5% and 15% of the metallic swarf was replaced with sand. The findings suggest that the incorporation of metallic swarf can effectively enhance the mechanical properties of conventional concrete, potentially leading to reduced natural resource utilization and sand extraction from riverbeds.
