Abstract

Children with disabilities are the ones who need additional care training and protection. Across the cerebral palsy spectrum poor nutrition status is caused by distinct pathways ranging from inadequate food intake, oral dysphagia, oral pharyngeal dysphagia, gastro esophageal reflux, chronic aspiration and behavioural etiologies. Some patients with oral pharyngeal dysphagia and gastroesophageal reflux are also at risk for recurrent aspiration, which can lead to chronic pulmonary disease. Hence it is important  to give appropriate feeding intervention for children with cerebral palsy and to build the knowledge and skills of their primary caregiver in feeding children with cerebral palsy . In this study an intervention package was used to manipulate the knowledge and practice  of primary caregivers and Wilcoxon Signed rank test was used to analyze the effectiveness. The obtained Z value (4.80) and (3.75) was statistically significant at 0.05 level. So it was concluded that intervention package was effective in increasing the knowledge and and practice of primary caregivers in feeding cerebral palsy children.
