The neonatal phase encompasses the initial four weeks of a baby's existence. A lot of complicated physiological changes happen, and the baby responds to all sorts of stimuli, during this time. Efficacious and continuous care is required at this time. "Newborn care includes determining if resuscitation is necessary, conducting a full medical examination, giving the baby immunisations and preventative drugs, making sure the baby gets enough to eat, gets enough sleep, and practices good hygiene, among other things. Sixty women who had recently given birth were the subjects of this quasi-experimental, one-group pre- and post-test study in Rourkela, Odisha, at the Rourkela General Hospital and the Shanti Memorial Hospital. The postnatal mothers’ knowledge on infant care was assessed using a knowledge questionnaire consisting of thirty items, with data collected using a semi-structured approach based on a probability sampling technique. End result: Out of 60 people who took the pretest, 95% had average knowledge, 5% had below average knowledge, and 0% had above average knowledge, according to the results After post test, 55% of the participants shown average knowledge, 3.3% demonstrated below-average knowledge, and 41.6% displayed above-average knowledge. Results showed no statistically significant correlation between postpartum mothers' knowledge scores on baby care and demographic variables such as age, education, religion, parity, or delivery method". Nonetheless, there was a notable correlation with the child's sex.Nursing practice education, administration, and future research are significantly affected by the finding. Assessing postnatal women's understanding of newborn care and encouraging prompt interventions is a special responsibility of obstetrics and gynaecology nurses.
