Abstract
The survey was conducted to determine the present status of Clubroot disease (Plasmodiophora brassicae) of Mustard at Jamalpur district of Bangladesh during the Rabi season of 2024–2025. A total of 25 farmers’ fields in 2 (two) Upazilas viz., Islampur and Dewanganj in Jamalpur district of Bangladesh were surveyed for Clubroot disease occurrences of Mustard. The varieties cultivated during survey were BARI Sharisha-14, BARI Sharisha-17, Tori-7, BINA Sarisha-9 and local cultivars were cultivated in fields. Disease incidence varied from 0 to 15% in the surveyed areas. Disease status ranged from 0 (no clubbing) to 2 (moderate clubbing). A few small clubs were noticed in 19 farmers’ fields and moderate clubbing was observed in 4 farmers’ fields. Two (2) farmers’ fields were no clubbing. There is no public record of a comprehensive nationwide survey on the distribution and severity of clubroot in mustard throughout Bangladesh. So, this survey report provides a little bit information of clubroot disease status in Bangladesh. All the upazilas in Bangladesh’s Jamalpur district must be included in the comprehensive survey. To get extensive information about clubroot disease, a thorough national survey must also be carried out. While breeding clubroot resistance is a primary management strategy globally, it is essential to develop resistant varieties suited to local conditions. Research is needed to identify or breed mustard varieties resistant to the local strains of the pathogen. Effective control requires an integrated approach that combines methods like resistant varieties, soil amendments, and crop rotation. More local research is needed to develop and disseminate these IPM strategies. Combating the spread of clubroot effectively requires collaboration between farmers, researchers, industry, and government to raise awareness and advance research.
