Traffic Safety in Indore: Analysis of Accident Trends, Causes, and Preventive Measures

Traffic safety has emerged as a significant concern in rapidly growing urban cities like Indore due to increasing population, rising vehicle ownership, and expanding infrastructure. This study focuses on analyzing traffic safety conditions in Indore by examining accident trends, major causes, high-risk zones, and existing safety measures over the period from 2020 to 2026. The analysis reveals a continuous increase in road accidents and fatalities, indicating a growing risk to public safety. The study identifies overspeeding, traffic rule violations, poor road conditions, and inadequate traffic management as the primary causes of accidents. Accident-prone locations, commonly known as black spots, contribute significantly to fatalities due to poor road design and high traffic density. The temporal analysis shows that accidents occur more frequently during daytime, particularly during peak evening hours, due to congestion and increased vehicular movement. Based on the findings, the study proposes the implementation of the Engineering, Enforcement, and Education (3E) approach to improve road safety. Measures such as better road infrastructure, strict traffic law enforcement, and increased public awareness are recommended. The study concludes that an integrated and data-driven approach is essential to reduce accident rates and enhance overall traffic safety in Indore.
