Abstract

Introduction: Pregnancy is a wonderful experience yet it is associated with unpleasant discomforts which can occurs because of physiological changes during pregnancy such as nausea, vomiting, heartburns, constipation, loss of appetite, backache, shortness of breath, leg cramps, abdominal cramps, frequency of micturition, itching, fatigue, emotional stress, leucorrhea and insomnia. Moreover, the pregnancy is not only a period of great joy but also one of great stream to warms and may rise to many anxieties because of anticipated uncertainly associated with it. Aim and Objective: The present study aim to explore the experience of discomforts by Primigravida mothers during 2nd trimester of pregnancy, to assess the health status of Primigravida mothers, to identify the remedial measures adopted by Primigravida mothers for discomforting symptoms and to provide need-based health instruction for managing the discomforts by Primigravida mothers during 2nd trimester of pregnancy in Haldwani, Nainital, (Uttarakhand). Material and Methods: The study was conducted in Primigravida mothers during 2nd trimester of pregnancy in selected rural area of Haldwani, Uttarakhand. The researcher was used mixed approach and descriptive exploratory design. The enumerative and purposive sampling technique was used for selection of 30 Primigravida mothers. Data collection done by the using tool I: Socio demographic characteristics, tool II: Health assessment of mothers, tool III: Semi-structured interview to explore the discomforting symptoms experienced by Primigravida mothers ,tool IV: Self-reported checklist to identified practice adopted by Primigravida mothers regarding discomforting symptoms during 2ndst trimester of pregnancy, tool V: On- hand health instruction based on identified needs regarding management of discomforts during 2nd trimesters of pregnancy. Result: Findings related to socio- demographic variable: Maximum mothers 16 (53.33%) were in age group of 25-27 years. Whereas, 28 (93.33%) mothers were belongs to Hindu religion, followed by 13(43.33%) mothers completed graduation and above, majority 27 (90%) of mothers were home maker, similarly 24 (80%) mothers were living in joint family and there pregnancy was planned, 18(60%) mothers had source of information regarding remedial measures. Finding related to health status of Primigravida mothers. The majority of 22(73.33%) mothers registered their pregnancy to the health care center, whereas 12 (40%) mothers were in 24-27 weeks of gestation, followed by, 29 (96.66%) mothers not reported any past medical and surgical history. Finding related to discomforting symptoms experienced by mothers. The majority of 25 (83.33%) mothers had fatigue and frequency of micturition. Whereas, 20(66.66%) of mothers reported backache and abdominal cramps. Followed by, 18 (60%) mothers had leucorrhea, nausea and vomiting. Similarly, 17(56.66%) mothers had leg cramps and 15 (50%) mother reported emotional stress. Conclusion: The following conclusions were drawn by the basis of the findings of the study. Discomforts of Primigravida mothers showed in seven categories. The heath status of all mothers normal, during the interview of mothers’ researcher found many areas for need- based health instruction.
