Abstract

Abstract-Bamboo fibers exhibit great potential when it comes to concrete strength and help in minimizing the unavoidable brittle failure. However, there is a need for reconceptualization which combines all other relevant important information and makes it easy for the reader to decide whether or not them uses of bamboo fibers are appropriate. Thus, this review is conducted on bamboo fiber-reinforced concrete to create an overview of historical and more recent findings which have been reported by other authors. The key factors of this review include the new properties, structural characteristics, behavior at high temperatures, longevity, and morphological structure. The results show that bamboo fibers reduced the flow of concrete just as other fiber types like steel fiber etc. Although an enhancement in certain strength characteristics was noted with the addition of bamboo fibers. In addition, the introduction of bamboo fiber enhanced the tensile strain thus avoiding undesirable brittle failure. The review also emphasizes the moderating effects of the amount of bamboo fibers that range between 1 to 1.5% of cement by weight. Finally, the study also suggests possible areas of further exploration for future innovations.
