Introduction: Colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men. An ostomy is a surgical procedure that creates an artificial opening in the colon, interrupting the normal bowel passage. Adapting to this significant life change is crucial, as patients must develop new behaviours for self-management and self-care. Successfully adapting to these changes requires knowledge, skills, and a certain level of self-efficacy to improve quality of life. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to assess the level of knowledge and practice among patients with ostomy and its effect on their quality of life. Objective of the study: To assess the quality of life of patient with ostomy. To assess the pre & post-test knowledge & practice among patient with colostomy regarding ostomy care. To evaluate the efficacy of Multifactorial intervention on knowledge & practice among patient with ostomy. To determine association between pre-test score of knowledge & practice with selected demographic variables among patient with ostomy in surgical ward in PT. B.D Sharma, PGIMS, Rohtak. Material and method: The researcher employed a quantitative approach and a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test research design, selecting 60 ostomy patients using a convenient sampling technique. WHO-QOL was used to assess the quality of life and structured interview knowledge questionnaire for assess the knowledge and ostomy care checklist for assess the practice regarding ostomy care. The data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: The value of mean ± SD in domain is 49±8.84 in physical domain, 42±10.8 in psychological domain, 57±13.18 in social domain, 54.3±13.10 in environmental domain. Mean value of overall pretest knowledge score was 15.7 and practice score was 7.73 whereas mean value of post-test knowledge score was 25.5 and practice score was 9.40. Conclusion: The investigator concludes that quality of life is lower in psychological domain and highest in social domain. The knowledge and practice of ostomy patients in post-test is more as compare to pretest. The multifactorial intervention helped enhance the knowledge and practices related to ostomy care.
