Abstract

In the pursuit of greener and more sustainable chemical processes, biocatalysis has emerged as a pivotal field bridging organic chemistry with biochemical innovation. This paper explores how principles from organic chemistry are being integrated into biocatalytic systems to enable environmentally friendly biochemical transformations.[1] Emphasis is placed on enzyme engineering, co-factor recycling, green solvent usage, and hybrid chemo-enzymatic methodologies that enhance selectivity, reduce toxicity, and minimize environmental impact. Recent advancements—including machine learning-assisted enzyme design and continuous flow bioprocesses—are discussed to underline the evolution of this synergy. Case studies from pharmaceutical and industrial contexts reinforce the real-world relevance. The paper argues that the confluence of mechanistic understanding from organic chemistry and biological specificity from enzymes is central to next-generation sustainable synthesis.
