Chemical Process of Diamonds and CVD Methods
Abstract: Many times, first-order kinetics can be seen in gas-phase decomposition events. However, it is now known that such reactions are actually governed by bimolecular processes. Bimolecular collisional activation to an energy sufficient for decomposition sets off the reaction. Gas-phase processes occurring in catalytic cycles are also to blame for the development of the ozone hole in the polar stratosphere in the spring, albeit heterogeneous mechanisms must also be taken into …

The Financial Implication of Weather Condition as a Determinant of On-Site Productivity and Contract Duration
Abstract: The effects of weather conditions on construction projects is an identifiable one as inclement weather can cause a lot of upset in works being executed, particularly in substructure and the wet trades such as concrete works. A cold dry weather harsh weather as in the case of the harmattan period causes drying out before concrete sets. Wet weather such as those experienced during the rainy seasons, which in the Niger …

Effect of varying water temperature on concrete properties
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to determine the effects of mixing-water temperature on the compressive strength, workability and water absorption rate of concrete. Locally available materials were used. Compression tests results showed that the 7 days value of 19.52N/mm2 at 35°C was higher than the value of 9.96N/mm2 at 5°C. The 28th day results for compression test also showed similar trend. The workability of the concrete decreased as the …

Tunnel Stability under Different Conditions: Analysis by Numerical and Empirical Modeling
Abstract: Abstract Stability of the tunnels under different geotechnical conditions can be effectively assessed using numerical modelling techniques. In this paper, the stability of tunnel was analyzed along with support requirement, based on stress distribution around tunnel, using the finite element modelling software – NISA. A case study was taken up of a tunnel proposed by Karnataka Netravari Nigam Limited near Siddapura, Udupi District, Karnataka, India. Results from finite element modeling …

Prediction and Assessment of Lateral Displacement of Rock Mass Along the Length of the Horseshoe Cavern – A Numerical Modelling Approach
Abstract: The stability of the underground structures is a key to successful underground mining. Caverns are large underground openings constructed in rock mass for a variety of purposes. The properties of intact rock mass are generally overshadowed by the properties of discontinuities, if the discontinuities are present. Mechanisms of deformation and failure of underground openings in jointed rock mass are determined by the characteristics of the geometrical distribution of discontinuities. This …

Assessment of Pedestrian Walking Characteristics at Erbil CBD
Abstract: To enable and encourage walking, understanding of the characteristics of pedestrian movements is vital. The restrictions on vehicular movement, and scarcity of parking lots had changed the whole traffic movement to the unserviceable condition. Therefore, walking is considered as the most efficient mode of transportation at Erbil CBD area. In developing countries like Iraq, however, the recognition of the importance of pedestrian walking studies is still infancy; the published data …
