Abstract

This review explores the factors influencing egg size variability in laying hens, emphasizing the intricate interplay between physiological, nutritional, and management aspects. Egg size is a crucial trait affecting both production efficiency and market value in poultry farming. The review discusses how genetic predispositions and physiological traits, such as the age of the hen and body condition, contribute to egg size. Additionally, nutritional factors, including protein content, energy levels, and mineral balance, are examined for their roles in optimizing egg production. Management practices, such as housing conditions, feeding regimens, and health monitoring, are also highlighted for their significant impact on egg size. By synthesizing current research, this review aims to provide insights into how these interrelated factors shape egg size variability, offering practical recommendations for poultry producers to enhance egg production strategies while ensuring optimal health and welfare of the hens. The findings underscore the necessity for a holistic approach in managing laying hens to achieve consistent and desirable egg size in commercial production settings
