Introduction: An umbilical cord blood bank is a facility which stores umbilical cord blood for potential future therapeutic use. Cord blood is collected from the placenta during the third stage of labor, when the cord is still attached to the placenta. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate how much antenatal mothers know about umbilical cord blood banking. Methodology: The study utilized a cross-sectional, quantitative research approach with a descriptive design. A total of 100 antenatal mothers were selected from a chosen hospital using purposive sampling. Data were collected through a self-structured and pre-validated questionnaire focused on knowledge of umbilical cord blood banking. The data collected were analyzed and interpreted based on the study objectives using SPSS version 22. Results: The results of the study showed that most antenatal mothers (68%) had inadequate knowledge about umbilical cord blood banking, while 28% demonstrated moderate knowledge, and only 4% had adequate knowledge on the subject. The Mean knowledge score was 4.95, Standard Deviation of ±4.53, Median 3 and Range of 16. Maximum scores obtained were 16 and minimum scores obtained were 0 out of a total possible score of 20. Mean percentage of knowledge score was 24.75%. Conclusion: The conclusion of the study was that antenatal mothers have inadequate knowledge regarding umbilical cord blood banking, and they need to be sensitized regarding this concept, for future therapeutic endeavors.
