Abstract
Biomimicry is exactly that! It's the practice of copying nature's proven patterns and strategies to solve human problems in a sustainable way. By learning from 3.8 billion years of natural evolution, people can create eco-friendly technologies, like buildings that save energy or materials that are kind to the environment, which also help support nature. Some famous examples come from different areas: In transportation, the Japanese Shinkansen bullet train was designed to be quiet and fast when leaving tunnels, inspired by the shape of a kingfisher bird's beak. For energy, modern wind turbine blades can produce up to 20% more power and make less noise because they are designed after the small bumps on whale fins. Even everyday items like Velcro were invented by looking at how burdock burrs stick to animal fur. For innovators in the Pune and Pimpri- Chinchwad region, studying local nature, such as how tree roots are strong or how lotus leaves stay dry, can lead to very sustainable design ideas. Biomimicry is the study of copying nature and its parts to find solutions for human design problems in a way that is good for the environment. Biomimetic looks at how features from living things can be used in non-living systems. This is different from just copying or testing the actual living system. Over a long time, natural selection has helped living things develop structures and materials that are well-suited to their environment. Nature has already solved many of our challenges, such as protection from the environment, the ability to heal itself, the ability to build structures on its own, and properties like artificial skin and resistance to bacteria.
