Sulfur-Based Copolymers: Current Status and NewOpportunities in Synthesis and Product ApplicationsBy Sunil Dhamaniya, Virendra Kumar Gupta, Nibedita Kasyapi
Abstract: Sulfur-based copolymers are fascinating materials with a wide range of applications. This reviewarticle delves into the synthetic aspects of sulfur copolymers, their characteristics, and theirapplications. Sulfur is a byproduct of refineries, produced in large quantities worldwide. Varioussulfur-based copolymers have been synthesized through inverse vulcanization, catalyst-induced low temperature inverse vulcanization, and polycondensation reactions. Researchers have studied a varietyof monomers, including benzoxazine moieties and sulfur-based systems with allylic or vinylicfunctionalities. The article …

Reactor-Made Polypropylene for 3D Printing: A Low-Crystallinity ApproachBy Hiren M. Bhajiwala, Virendra Kumar Gupta
Abstract: 3D printing is technology that enables the complex structure, which is difficult in conventional technique. However, relatively slow manufacturing process and using of limited polymeric material leads to attention of scientist towards newer cost-effective material and technology. In this study, we overcome this issue by synthesizing reactor-made polypropylene (mPP) using Dimethylsilylene-(cyclopentadienyl) (fluorenyl)-zirconium-dichloride metallocene catalyst. The polymerization process was systematically optimized by varying Al/Zr molar ratios, catalyst concentrations, and temperatures to …

Facile Approach to Epoxidize Elastomers & Its Silica Composite for Green Tyre ApplicationBy Parashiva Prabhu, Subhra Mohanty, Virendra Kumar Gupta
Abstract: Rubber epoxidation is usually carried out to serve dual purpose, to introduce the functionality, and to enhance the polymer – filler interaction. In general, epoxidation of elastomers having unsaturation in backbone adopt conventional refluxing and batch process which makes the synthesis complex as well as time consuming. In view of this, a novel process of epoxidation through sonication technique is identified as simple and efficient process. Synthetic rubbers containing unsaturation …

Synthesis of Brominated Poly (Isobutylene-co-Isoprene) Based Ionomers and Its ApplicationsBy Saurabh K. Tiwari, Virendra Kumar Gupta
Abstract: Reactive bromobutyl rubber and its modification have been studied in detail. These reactive bromobutyl rubber was converted to ammonium and phosphonium functionalized bromobutyl rubber using triphenyl phosphine (PPh3) and 4-Dimethylaminopyridine (4-DMAP). Mechanical properties of synthesized ionomers are found comparative with butyl rubber. Pharma stopper was made from synthesized phosphonium ionomer that may be useful for pharma industries due to its self-healing characteristics which can help to preserve the properties of …

Studies on Functionalized Nonwoven Polypropylene Fabric for Antibacterial & Antiviral PropertiesBy Ritesh J. Dhanorkar, Sibanarayan Tripathy, Subhra Mohanty, Nishant Saxena, Debanjan Sanyal, Santanu Dasgupta, Virendra Kumar Gupta
Abstract: Nonwoven polypropylene (NWPP) fabric is a versatile material used predominantly in medical field for hygiene products and for PPE applications. The application of NWPP is limited in disinfectant area due to lack of antimicrobial properties and its non-polar nature. The coating of antimicrobial agents on NWPP fibre is expected to lower down the intensity of communicable microbial infections. The present study involves the surface functionalization of NWPP fibre via plasma …
