Abstract

Lean manufacturing is a systematic framework for eliminating waste from a manufacturing system, or value stream, without sacrificing productivity Literature related to work shows that there are various sets of tools or techniques that have been adopted at a certain degree across firms according to their own manufacturing capacity and available resources needed for implementation of lean techniques. This paper describes the implementation of ‘5S’ as lean tool on machine to improve the effectiveness the issue of lean management study in developing a conceptual model for small and medium scale (SME) industry to implement lean tools and techniques to improve their productivity and eliminate waste from shop floor. Introducing the ‘5S’ lean manufacturing brings great changes in the organization e.g., increasing effectiveness and efficiency in the process, improved visibility of the process, improved moral and safety of the employees, reduced delay, searching times and dangerous condition. ‘5S’ is powerful tool & can be implemented in any industry, weather it is micro, small, medium &large. The most economical and easy way to implementation of lean techniques has been investigated. In this work, conceptual model of lean tools for SME is designed which include ‘5S’ empirical relationship formula for calculating time saving after implementation of lean model in SME’s. This paper focuses on the effectiveness and flexibility of tools to increase productivity and minimize the waste in the manufacturing industry.
