Abstract
The heart functions as a muscular pump responsible for propelling blood throughout the body's tissues, ensuring a continuous supply of oxygen and nutrients while removing metabolic waste products. Oxygen plays a crucial role in the body's energy production, and its absence can lead to cell death in vital organs such as the brain and other body parts. The heart's rhythmic action and respiratory efforts are essential for transporting oxygen to the tissues, with the brain being particularly vulnerable to oxygen deprivation. Without oxygen, irreversible brain damage can occur within approximately four minutes, while the heart quickly loses its ability to maintain a normal rhythm. Death can occur at any time due to causes like stroke, poisoning, accidents, suicide, injury, medication error, shock, and cardiac arrest. Among this cardiac arrest deaths remain major cause of mortality. Cardiac arrest can result from a primary air way obstruction, respiratory inadequacy and cardiac abnormalities or can be secondary to a life-threatening illness that comprises the airway, breathing or circulation. The three basic mechanism of cardiac arrest are ventricular fibrillation, systole, and pulseless electrical activity.
