Abstract

This study explores how to improve accessibility and inclusivity in multi-unit homestays by implementing Universal Design principles. The research aims to explore how Universal Design can improve the hospitality experience for all guests, particularly those with disabilities, by ensuring that accommodations are functional, comfortable, and universally accessible. The methodology involves analysing existing homestay units to identify accessibility barriers and proposing design solutions that align with Universal Design standards. Key findings reveal that integrating Universal Design not only addresses accessibility issues but also enhances the sustainability and overall appeal of the homestay environment. By implementing these principles, homestays can broaden their market reach, appealing to a wider range of guests and fostering a more welcoming atmosphere. The study underscores the importance of adopting Universal Design in creating accommodations that serve diverse needs, suggesting that such integration can lead to increased guest satisfaction and market competitiveness. This research highlights the potential benefits of Universal Design in the hospitality industry and advocates for its adoption to ensure that homestays are inclusive and accessible to all.
