This review article examines best practices and established protocols aimed at enhancing patient safety throughout the surgical process. We explore critical aspects of preoperative assessment, including thorough patient histories, risk factor identification, and comprehensive ophthalmic evaluations. Emphasis is placed on the importance of effective communication among surgical teams and between clinicians and patients to ensure a clear understanding of procedures and potential risks. Intraoperatively, we discuss protocols that minimize complications, such as maintaining sterile environments, employing proper anaesthesia techniques, and utilizing advanced surgical technologies. Additionally, postoperative care guidelines are highlighted, focusing on patient education regarding recovery, symptom monitoring, and follow-up appointments to ensure optimal outcomes. This review synthesizes current literature and guidelines from leading ophthalmic associations, aiming to provide a framework for clinicians to enhance patient safety in eye surgery. By adopting these best practices, surgical teams can significantly reduce the incidence of adverse events and improve overall patient satisfaction.
