Abstract

Introduction: The term “family caregiver” describes individuals who care for members of their family of origin but also refers to those who care for their family of choice. Caregivers of patients with mental disorders play a prominent role in caring for patients with any psychotic disorders and averting their readmission. The study was carried out with the objective is to assess the problems faced by the caregivers of children with impairment of psychological function. Materials and Methods: A descriptive research design was undertaken in Shree Saisewa Mentally Reattended School for boys and girls and Padmashri Dr. Eknath Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Vidyalay, Babhaleswar, Ahmednagar. The sample size is 30, selected with the help of a purposive sampling technique. A nurse investigator conducted a test for (5hrs) to collect the data. The data was analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics whenever required. Results: A total of 30 participants were included in the study. Study revealed that 63.33% caregivers age group of above 31 years, 53.33% are female, 43.33% caregivers belong to a joint family, 53.33% caregivers are from rural area, 33.33% caregivers are at primary level, and 30% caregivers are unemployed. Mean score for psychological distress is 10.7, and SD is 5.908, indicating a mild level of psychological distress, for burden mean is 21 and SD is 6.49 indicates moderate level of burden, for depression mean score is 6.13, and SD is 5.54, indicating a mild level of depression and for social isolation mean is 20.4, and SD is 9.65, indicating a moderate level of social isolation. Conclusion: The majority of caregivers had mild levels of psychological distress and depression, moderate level of burden and social isolation.
