Abstract
Background: The rise of social media has transformed how individuals connect, engage, and exchange information with one another. Adolescents are among the most active users of social media platforms, with a significant proportion of their daily lives spent online. According to a report by the Pew Research Center (2020), 70% of teens aged 13–17 use social media, with Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok being the most popular platforms. Aim: The aim of the study was determining the impact of social media on mental health, specially targeting prevalence lack of concentration and academic performance among adolescents. Objectives:(1)To assess the impact of social media on mental health and lack of concentration and academic performance. (2) To examine the relationship between selected demographic factors and the impact of social media on mental health. (3) To find out the correlation between impact of social media on mental and prevalence lack of concentration and academic performance. Methodology Design: Nonexperimental descriptive design: (1) Subject: 30 students. (2) Sampling Technique: Simple random sampling technique. (3)Data Collection Tool: Structured questionnaire.
Result: The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and interrupted in terms of objectives and hypothesis of the study result demographic variables such as age, religion, source of information, education level, sex, types of social media of the students describe in terms of the frequency, and percentage distribution. Percentage-wise distribution based on levels of concentration and corresponding academic performance. Conclusion: There was no significant association that was found with impact of social media on mental health with socio demographic variables. Karl Pearson’s correlation value is 0.261, there is positive correlation between impact of social media on mental health and academic performance.
