Abstract
Adolescence is the phase of life between childhood and adulthood, from age 10 to 19 years. It represents a distinctive phase in human growth and a critical period for establishing the fundamentals of optimal health. Aim: (1) To recognize adolescents engaged in substance abuse and investigate the underlying causes and factors contributing to their behavior. (2) To assess the efficacy of interventions aimed at controlling substance abuse among adolescents. Research Approach: A mixed-method research approach was utilized, employing a sequential exploratory research design. Sampling Technique: A total of 150 samples were selected based on QUAL: six information rich intensity sampling quan: total enumerative sampling technique. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, descriptive, and inferential statistics. Results: Phenomenologically, two themes emerged include stress and unable to say no assertively to drug offers. These findings were incorporated towards intervention tool effectiveness of substance abuse control strategies on knowledge the mean post-test knowledge score in the experimental group shown the significant improvement (experimental group-13.60, control group 4.70) than the control group, the mean post-test drug refusal assertiveness score on three domains general assertiveness (experimental group-23.80, control group 15.60), substance related assertiveness(experimental group-11.30, control group 5.75), and social assertiveness (experimental group-12.90, control group 8.15) significantly increased than the control group, overall drug refusal assertiveness (experimental group-48.00, control group 29.75) the mean post-test score on self-management skill on three domains self-monitoring (experimental group-7.30, control group 6.05), self-evaluation (experimental group-15.90, control group 9.30), and self- reinforcement (experimental group-13.60, control group10.90). Overall self-management skill (experimental group-37.10, control group 26.25). There was fair correlation between the knowledge and drug refusal assertiveness the significant p-value was 0.04, and there was moderate correlation between the knowledge and self-management skill the significant p value –0.01. Conclusion: The substance abuse control strategies found to be effective towards adolescent substance abuse.
