Abstract
Introduction:Children are our future, representing our most valuable resource and a key asset to any nation. The children of today are the citizens of tomorrow, the emerging human resources and future leaders of the country. Healthy children are not just assets, but also the foundation for building a strong and prosperous nation. It is our responsibility to nurture and protect them, and programs aimed at children should play a significant role in our national development plans, particularly in fostering human resources. Materials and methods: A Pre-Experiment research design was utilized for the study. The sample consisted of 50 multi-purpose health workers from the selected urban primary health center Phase-II, Sector 65, District Mohali, who were chosen using a non-probability purposive sampling method. The tool used for data collection was a self-structured knowledge questionnaire, which was validated by 7 nursing experts to establish its content validity. The reliability of the tool was assessed by cronbach’s Alpha method was used in IBM SPSS version 20 and it was found to‘r’ 0.765 hence the found was highly reliable. Results:The analysis revealed that the pre-test level of knowledge regarding the integrated management of neonatal and childhood illness among 50 multi-purpose health workers shows, 54% had inadequate knowledge and 46% had moderate knowledge, none had adequate knowledge. The median knowledge score was 12, with a standard deviation of 1.923. Post-test knowledge scores revealed that 98% of the 50 multi-purpose health workers had adequate knowledge, 2% had moderate knowledge, and none had inadequate knowledge. The median score post-test was 29, with a standard deviation of 1.845. The Paired-T test yielded a value of t = 41.083 and a p-value of <0.001, both of which indicate a highly significant result at the 0.05 level. Conclusion:The study concluded that the structured teaching program significantly enhanced the knowledge of multi-purpose health workers regarding the integrated management of neonatal and childhood illnesses.
