Abstract

Background: Maternal health is a crucial aspect of public welfare, as antenatal mothers require targeted care to prevent pregnancy-related complications. Despite the availability of services in India, lack of awareness and poor utilization remain significant challenges. Objectives: The study aimed to assess the utilization of antenatal health services among expectant mothers and to examine associations with selected socio-demographic variables. Methodology: An evaluative approach was used. Sixty antenatal mothers from selected PHCs in Bangalore were chosen through purposive sampling. Data collection were carried out through a structured interview schedule, followed by the implementation of a structured teaching program (STP) aimed at improving knowledge. Results: The mean pre-test knowledge score was 10.63 ± 4.39 (35.4%), which increased significantly to 24.78 ± 2.88 (82.6%) post-intervention, showing a mean gain of 14.20 ± 4.14 (p < 0.001). Knowledge improvement was significantly associated with educational qualification, family income, type of family, religion, and dietary habits. Conclusion: Structured teaching programs effectively enhanced knowledge of antenatal mothers and promote the utilization of antenatal health services, supporting safer pregnancies.
