Abstract

The present research work analyzes the overtaking behavior and lateral placement of motorized vehicles under heterogeneous traffic conditions. The data for the present research work was collected at two four-lane divided highway sections. Video recording was done to collect lateral placement data and overtaking behavior of vehicles was observed using moving car method. The lateral placement data was tried to fit with normal distribution. But the study found that, it does not fit the normal distribution. The research work also estimated the acceleration parameters on the study sections, which showed a decreasing trend between acceleration rate and overtaking speed.
