Abstract

Abstract: This study examines the fundamental differences between minimalism and maximalism as two distinct interior design styles. Maximalism promotes profusion, diverse compositions, and vivid
aesthetics, whereas minimalism pushes for simplicity, clean lines, and a “less is more” philosophy. Through a comparative analysis of key principles, aesthetics, influences, and psychological impacts, this research aims to provide insights into the underlying philosophies and appeal of each style. The study investigates the historical evolution of minimalism and maximalism, tracing their origins, cultural influences, and notable proponents. It explores how minimalist design emerged as a response to excess and consumerism, influenced by movements such as Bauhaus and Japanese Zen aesthetics. In contrast, maximalism embraces a more flamboyant and expressive approach, drawing inspiration from diverse cultures, art movements, and individual creativity. Additionally, the study explores the traits and design tenets that characterize each style. Functionality, clarity, and peace of mind are given priority in minimalist interior design, which frequently has neutral color schemes, streamlined furniture, and uncluttered areas. interiors with a maximumist feel, on the other hand, revel in bold colors, patterns, and textures, mixing various design elements, art pieces, and collectibles to create visually stimulating environments. The study also examines the psychological implications of minimalism and maximalism on occupants. Minimalist spaces are associated with feelings of calmness, focus, and mindfulness, promoting a sense of clarity and order. In contrast, maximalist environments can evoke excitement, creativity, and a sense of individuality, albeit potentially overwhelming for some individuals.
