This investigation addresses the effect of freshwater quality on metal corrosion in Choba river located in Obio/Akpo Local Government Area of Rivers State of Nigeria. The research involves the use of four different metal coupons namely Carbon Steel (CBS-D), Mild Steel (MS-B), Stainless Steel (SST-C), and Copper Steel (CPS-A). The different metal coupons were immersed in the freshwater medium and the freshwater medium is contaminated with industrial activities. The rate of corrosion of each meal was monitored with respect to time and depth. The major factors that influence metal corrosion are the physiochemical properties of the water at each contact time and depth, since the river is flowing. The concentration of the river is changing alongside. The following physiochemical parameters were monitored, which include, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total hardness, alkalinity, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solid (TDS), total suspended solid (TSS), turbidity, chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrogen (N), phosphrous, lead, cadmium (Cd), sulphate, chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and copper (Cu). The research reveals that the variation in the physiochemical properties of these substances impacted on the metal coupons immersed in Choba River and the impact was attributed to the contaminants deposit on the metal and the variation in the physicochemical.
