Abstract
The diffusion and reaction kinetics of heavy metals in soil are critical factors influencing pollutant migration and environmental remediation strategies. Understanding the diffusion and reaction kinetics of heavy metals in soils is crucial for assessing environmental contamination and designing effective remediation strategies. This study investigated the diffusion behavior of heavy metals in soil media under varying thermal and physical conditions, employing a first- order reaction model based on Fick’s second law and validated through experimental measurements. Experimental results revealed that increasing the temperature from 293 K to 373 K elevated the reaction rate constant from to , while mass transfer rates increased from 108 mg/kg to 173 mg/kg. In contrast, extending the reactor length from 0.01 m to 0.05 m reduced mass transfer from 108.2 mg/kg to 50.7 mg/kg, following a linear relationship described by with a value of 0.7118. Furthermore, the reaction rate constant declined markedly with higher activation energy, decreasing from to as activation energy increased from J/kmol·K to J/kmol·K. These findings highlight the significant impact of temperature, reactor geometry, and activation energy on heavy metal transport in soils and demonstrate that the developed models offer valuable predictive capability for environmental assessments and remediation process design.
