Seasonal Assessment of Water Quality of Hand-Dug Wells Used for Drinking and Agricultural Purposes in Makeni, Northern Province, Sierra Leone
Abstract: The study assesses four Wells’ groundwater quality in terms of its suitability for agricultural irrigation and drinking purposes. From January to December 2024, the following physicochemical parameters pH, turbidity, electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), ammonia, nitrate, fluoride, and chromium were examined. To evaluate each Well’s overall water quality, the water quality index (WQI) was computed. Well two (90.56) and Well three (71.14) WQI values show that the water …

Influence of Contaminants on Ground Water and Associated Health Risk
Abstract: Due to the demand for safe water, groundwater quality which relates closely to human health has become as important as its quantity. Any place where surface water makes its way into ground water, organic chemicals and pathogens potentially can enter. Natural sources or numerous types of human activities can contaminate the ground water. Assessment of Foundation for Pier
Abstract: AbstractThe design and assessment of pier foundations are crucial due to the substantial loads they mustsupport. Piers are subjected to significant structural and dynamic loads, requiring a robustfoundation system to ensure stability and prevent excessive settlement or failure. A mat foundation istypically selected to distribute these heavy loads over a large area, minimizing pressure on theunderlying soil. The bearing capacity is assumed to be based on the presence of a …

Harvesting and Managing Rainwater
Abstract: Rainfall harvesting, or RWH, is the practice of gathering and holding onto rainfall rather than allowing it to run off. This water is typically gathered from surfaces like rooftops and redirected into tanks, cisterns, wells, aquifers, or reservoirs that allow it to percolate and replenish groundwater. Additionally, dew and fog can be captured using nets or similar devices. Unlike stormwater harvesting, which collects runoff from various surfaces, RWH focuses on …

Modern Techniques of Irrigation to Farm
Abstract: Irrigation, often known as watering, is the agricultural practise of applying controlled amounts of water to land to aid in the development of crops, as well as to produce landscaping plants and lawns. Rainfed agriculture is agriculture that does not use irrigation and instead relies solely on direct rainfall. It is the process of artificially hydrating land it does not receive adequate rainfall. It's also the process of applying water …

Review On Eco-Brick: A Sustainable Solution for Plastic Waste
Abstract: Abstract - Traditional waste management methods like incineration and landfilling are no longer sustainable solutions because they result in greenhouse gas emissions, toxic gas release, soil degradation, and groundwater contamination. As a result, innovative and environmentally responsible alternatives are desperately needed. The rapid accumulation of non-biodegradable plastic waste has become a critical global environmental issue due to its long-lasting nature, harmful ecological effects, and difficulties associated with its disposal. Plastic …

Stabilization of Foundation Base Soil for Enhanced Bearing Capacity and Lateral Load Resistance
Abstract: Abstract The foundation of any structure plays a pivotal role in ensuring its stability and durability. The soil beneath the foundation must possess sufficient bearing capacity to support the structure's load, while also resisting the uplift pressure exerted by groundwater, especially in saturated conditions. Inadequate bearing capacity can lead to settlement or even structural failure. Additionally, the surrounding soil must be stabilized to prevent lateral movement and ensure the foundation's …

Response of Zea mays to Rhizophagus Intraradices with 50% Nitrogen and Phosphorus Fertilizer Prevents the Release of N2O From the Soil
Abstract: The healthy growth of Zea mays (maize) requires NH4NO3/PO4--3 fertilizers (ammonium nitrate and phosphates), are applied in unregulated doses, are associated to denitrification, generating greenhouse gases, causing global warming, loss of soil productivity, and pollution of surface water in case of phosphates. An alternative is to decrease and optimize the dose of NH4NO3/PO4--3 by applying arbuscular vesicle fungi (AVF), to optimize, the dose of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers, AVF endosymbionts …
