Prediction of Compressive strength of Periwinkle Shell Aggregate Concrete Using a Quadratic Polynomial Function
Abstract: In this study, a mathematical model is developed to predict the compressive strength of normal concrete made with periwinkle shell as coarse aggregate using a quadratic polynomial function. The response function is expressed as a multivariable function of the proportions of the component materials (water, ordinary Portland cement, sand and periwinkle shell). A total of thirty experimental runs were used to demonstrate the applicability of the mathematical model developed. The …

Mathematical Model to Monitor Concrete Compressive Strength Partially Replaced with Periwinkle and Palm Kernel Shell as Aggregate
Abstract: This research work monitor that application of periwinkle and palm kernel shell as partial replacement for aggregate, the study are carried out applying modeling and simulation techniques, concrete are normally heterogeneous in most cases, but the study try to examine the growth rate of the material on their compressive strength, such process were carried out using these two locally sourced material at different percentage of replacement for aggregate, the study …

Maximizing Void Properties from Optimized Local Pozzolans in Wearing Course of Bituminous Concrete Mixtures
Abstract: Failure of asphalt pavement has influenced research into better ways to optimize local pozzolans seenas waste and reduce cost of importation of admixtures. Waste Shell Ashes are checked as localassembled by incorporating them in asphalt concrete mix design. Different research has shown thatsome agricultural waste/by-products can be admitted as mineral fillers in hot-mix asphalt concrete toobtain certain desirable properties. It is on this basis that this research attempts to interrogate …

Production of Paint Using Locally Sourced Materials
Abstract: In this research work, a prototype mixer was fabricated particularly for the purpose of this research in which paint production was carried out. For the processing, two formulations were used with the same composition but differs in extender pigment. Calcium carbonate was considered and used as an extender pigment which gives white coloured paint with titanium oxide as prime pigment. This was due to the colour of the periwinkle shell …

POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS (PAHs) AND HEAVY METALS IN SELECTED DRIED SEA FOODS FROM PORTHARCOURT CITY NIGERIA
Abstract: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHS) and heavy metals constitute environmental recalcitrant pollutants which are toxic and carcinogenic. The levels of PAHs and heavy metals (As, Hg, V, Zn, Pb, and Cr) in dried sea foods: prawn (Panaeus monodon), water snail (Bithynia tentaculata), periwinkle (Littorina littorea), conch (Lobatus gallus) and Oyester (Ostrea edulis) were determined. PAHs were determined using GC/FID and the heavy metals were determined using AAS. Total PAHs ranged from …
