Sonochemical Synthesis of Copper Nanoparticles:Process Fundamentals, Scale-Up Challenges, andIndustrial OpportunitiesBy Aapasthamba Govindasamy R., Indra Neel Pulidindi
Abstract: The sonochemical synthesis of copper nanoparticles (Cu NPs) has emerged as a powerful and widely investigated strategy in nanomaterials research, owing to the unique physicochemical conditions generated during ultrasonic irradiation. Acoustic cavitation induced by sonication produces transient microenvironments characterized by extremely high local temperatures, pressures, and rapid cooling rates, which collectively enable efficient reduction of copper precursors into nanoscale particles. These conditions cannot be easily achieved through conventional synthetic routes, …

Catalytic Applications of Carbon NanodotsBy Aapasthamba Govindasamy R., Indra Neel Pulidindi
Abstract: Carbon nanodots (CNDs) owing to their hydrophilicity and multifunctionality and with ultrasmall size exhibit metal-like properties resulting in astounding catalytic performance. These nanostructures, typically less than 10 nm in diameter, possess unique physicochemical and electronic characteristics including tunable photoluminescence, high surface-to-volume ratio, abundant surface functional groups, and excellent electron transfer capabilities. Such properties have driven extensive global research into their application in heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis. Recent advances in synthesis …

Catalytic Methods to Produce 2,5-FurandicarboxylicAcid from GlucoseBy Niranjana Arivalagan, Indra Neel Pulidindi
Abstract: The new avenue in the realm of catalysis and in chemical industry is the paradigm shift from fossil based to biobased inventory, including the feedstock. Biomass is found to be a promising substitute to petroleum- based feedstock. Almost all the chemicals that could be derived from the conventional petro-refinery can be obtained from the bio-refinery with the intelligent use of Catalysis for the conversion of biomass selectively to the target …

Wettability of carbon fibers with resin matrices from dynamic contact angle measurementsBy Indra Neel Pulidindi
Abstract: Wettability is the property that quantifies the propensity of a solid surface (carbon fiber) to be covered by a liquid (resin). For a wettable solid, the solid-liquid contact is favoured and as a result the liquid spreads on such surface of the solid. Spreading of the liquid on the solid surface is primarily driven by the adhesive forces between the liquid and the solid, while the inter molecular cohesive forces …

Effect of the class of activating agent (inorganic vs. organic) on the structure of activated carbon materials from biomass †By Indra Neel Pulidindi, Prakash Vaithyanathan, Varadarajan Thirukallam Kanthadai, Viswanathan Balasubramanian
Abstract: The impact of the class of the activating agent (inorganic Vs organic) on the structure and the crystallographic parameters of the activated carbon materials (ACMs) from biomass was studied. The stems of the waste land weed native of India, namely, Calotropis gigantea were used as a representative example for the biomass based sustainable raw material. Likewise, carbonate (K 2 CO 3 ) and oxalate (Na 2 C 2 O 4 …

Structure and dynamics of carbon dangling bonds in activated carbon materials from biomass†By Indra Neel Pulidindi, Varadarajan Thirukallam Kanthadai, Viswanathan Balasubramanian
Abstract: Activated carbon materials are inevitable for energy-related applications. Production of such materials from biomass is sustainable. Microporous activated carbon materials with high specific surface area and pore sizes of less than 2 nm find life-saving applications apart from their utility in environmental remediation. The free electron density of these materials is tunable and is a measure of electrical conductivity that is useful for the development of green and renewable energy …

Three Dimensional (3D) Structure and Morphology ofCarbon Fibers from X-Ray Microscopy (XRM) Analysis†By Indra Neel Pulidindi
Abstract: X-ray microscopy is an elegant chemical imaging technique that bridges the gap between lightmicroscopy and electron microscopy. Vital information on the chemical state (valency, surfacefunctionality), chemical composition, three-dimensional (3D) chemical structure (order, disorder, rupture), and chemical imaging can be obtained from X-ray microscopy. In the current originalresearch article, X-ray microscopy is used as a characterization tool to examine the microstructuralfeatures of commercial carbon fibers. Pitch-based (NX100) and polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based(T700SC) CFs chosen …

Commercial Scale Quantification of LigninBy Amudhavalli Victor, Indra Neel Pulidindi, Suresh Selvaraj, Aharon Gedanken
Abstract: Lignin, an aromatic biopolymer, in the terrestrial lignocellulosic biomass constitutes the single largest and sustainable source of biofuels and biochemicals. The recalcitrant nature of lignin is a hindrance to its chemical or biochemical conversion. Moreover, its insolubility in water too is a major challenge in its quantification which is a necessary step prior to and after its conversion. Though there are celebrated quantification methods like the classical Klason lignin method …

High Performance Electrochemical Double Layer Capacitor (EDLC) Electrodes from Biomass Derived Carbon Materials †By Indra Neel Pulidindi, Varadarajan Thirukallam Kanthadai, Viswanathan Balasubramanian
Abstract: Insecurity and scarcity of resources lead to war and conflict as seen in Ukraine and Gaza. To prevent the dangerous effects of resource crises, especially, energy, it is imperative to invent energy sources at a war footing. The present review article is a serious attempt in that path. Super capacitors, especially, the electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLCs) are potential energy storage devices that could be a substitute to fossil fuels. Yet, …
