Background: Nursing is an art & science; nurses are the one who often meet the patients and carried out the nursing procedure to meet the needs of the patient. Ventilator-associated pneumonia in one of the major health concerns associated with a high incidence of mortality and morbidity rate in all the ICUs. There is a need for a proper standard operating nursing procedure to reduce the incidence of VAP to promote the outcome of the patient. Methodology: A quasi-experimental research design was adopted for the present study. The sample size was 40 patients (experimental group 20 and controls 20) who were on a mechanical ventilator. A non-probability purposive sampling technique was used to collect the subjects and assign them to cases and controls. The conceptual framework of the present study was based on Ernestine Wiedenbach’s Prescription Theory, clinical nursing practice –A helping art, modified by the investigator. Results: Overall comparison of experimental and control group on Day 1–Day 5, the t-value is 4.9409, on Day 3–Day 5 the t-value is 3.5915, which are greater than the table value (2.03) and P-value (0.0001 and 0.0009 on Day 1–5 and Day 3–5, respectively) was less than the 0.05 level significance. Hence, the Null hypotheses were rejected and the research hypotheses was accepted, this result reveals that there is an effectiveness of SONPs regarding hand hygiene, oral hygiene, and ET-suctioning on reduction of ventilator-associated pneumonia on patients with mechanical ventilator. Conclusion: Based on the findings of the study it can be concluded that there is effectiveness of SONPs in reduction of ventilator-associated pneumonia on patient who are on mechanical ventilator.
