Intertwining Brushes and Blueprints: The Legacy of Architect Oswaldo Muñoz Mariño
Abstract: This research explores the profound interrelationship between the architectural and artistic production of Oswaldo Muñoz Mariño, who lived from 1914 to 2009. This Ecuadorian pioneer’s work exemplifies the synergy between both disciplines during the 1950s and 1970s. Despite his relevance, the systematic interaction between these facets has been underexplored. The study analyzes three emblematic works: the Quito City Hall project from 1958, the Prometeo Theater from 1966, and the Residential …

Performance Analysis of High-Volume Fly Ash and Recycled Aggregate in M50 Concrete: Workability and Compressive Strength
Abstract: Abstract This study evaluates the impact of recycled aggregate (RA) and high-volume fly ash (HVFA) on the workability and compressive strength of M50 grade concrete. Slump tests were conducted for various water-cement ratios, using a mix ratio of 1:0.69:2.29 and a high-range water reducer. The compressive strength of concrete mixtures incorporating varying percentages of RA and FA was measured at 7, 28, and 90 days. Results indicate that replacing natural …

Influence of GGBFS Content and Curing Methods on the Compressive Strength of Coconut Shell Concrete: A Mix Design Approach for Sustainable Construction
Abstract: AbstractThis study explores the development of a coconut shell concrete (CSC) mix design using theACI211.298 guidelines, targeting a compressive strength of 20 MPa for structural applications. Dueto the organic and flaky properties of coconut shell (CS), achieving the initial target strength of 40MPa was challenging, necessitating a focus on optimizing mix proportions for a 20 MPa goal. Theresearch investigates three different mixes with varying percentages of ground granulated blastfurnace slag …

Assessment of Foundation for Pier
Abstract: AbstractThe design and assessment of pier foundations are crucial due to the substantial loads they mustsupport. Piers are subjected to significant structural and dynamic loads, requiring a robustfoundation system to ensure stability and prevent excessive settlement or failure. A mat foundation istypically selected to distribute these heavy loads over a large area, minimizing pressure on theunderlying soil. The bearing capacity is assumed to be based on the presence of a …

Eco-Friendly Agriculture
Abstract: The green revolution brought a huge increase in rice and wheat yields in Asia, but it relied heavily on chemicals and machines that harm the environment. This approach isn’t sustainable and puts our lands, forests, and water at risk. To secure our food and economic future, especially in developing countries, we need to find ways to grow more food without hurting the planet. One solution is to use sustainable farming …

Harvesting and Managing Rainwater
Abstract: Rainfall harvesting, or RWH, is the practice of gathering and holding onto rainfall rather than allowing it to run off. This water is typically gathered from surfaces like rooftops and redirected into tanks, cisterns, wells, aquifers, or reservoirs that allow it to percolate and replenish groundwater. Additionally, dew and fog can be captured using nets or similar devices. Unlike stormwater harvesting, which collects runoff from various surfaces, RWH focuses on …

The Changing Significance of Urban Infrastructure: A Study of Dikes in the Dutch Landscape
Abstract: In Gardens: An Essay on the Human Condition, Robert Pogue Harrison discusses the garden as being “nothing if not a phenomenon,” (p. 118) This transitional nature of landscape also applies to urban infrastructure; changing with time and in response to the needs of its users, for protection, transportation, or resource delivery. More recently, defensive dikes in the Netherlands have joined this group, as the relationship of the Dutch to their …

Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting in Urban Areas of India
Abstract: Water is very important for survival of every human being. India is blessed with adequate rainfall. It is estimated that rainwater captured from 1-2 percent of India’s land can provide water to 950 million persons at 100 liters per person per day. With the development and growth of urban population, the paved area and roof area is also increasing and this situation is ideal for implementing rainwater harvesting techniques. This …

Identification of Ecological Open Spaces of Urban Areas for Smart City Development: A Case of Jabalpur City in Madhya Pradesh in India
Abstract: The birth of a human habitation starts from an idea of shelter in a natural place which satisfies the parameter of food, water and security. These centers in course of time expand and utilize the neighborhood resources for land, minerals, forests, water from ground and surface water bodies, etc. thereby depleting the original values and in the process ending all vital open spaces which were once the cause of genesis. …
